Happy Monday! In this week’s watercolor tutorial, I show you how to layer flowers to add complexity to your floral painting. It can look daunting if you’re just starting out, but if you watch the video, you’ll see that it’s super easy! If you can paint a few individual flowers and leaves, then creating a cohesive painting is about adding the elements and placing them nicely together. I will create a full tutorial on composition in the future, but for now, this is just an exercise so you can feel comfortable adding different types of flowers and leaves together.

Notice I have moments in the video when I just place my hands on the painting? That’s me taking a moment to pause and quickly reflect on how the painting is coming together. Of course, if you prefer to sketch and plan out your painting first, please do so!
